Pokémon for Beginners

Christ the Rock Lutheran Church

Suggested ages: 7+ Pokémon Club is a relaxed, beginner friendly space where students can learn how to play the Pokémon card game while connecting with other Pokémon enthusiasts in a supportive, guided environment. Participants will be introduced to basic rules, card types, and simple gameplay while practicing together at a comfortable pace. Friends are welcome, and students are encouraged to invite a friend to join them. This session focuses on learning, asking questions, and building confidence. No prior Pokémon experience is required. Students are encouraged to bring their own cards to get familiar with what they have, but a limited number of extra decks will be available for use. Playing Pokémon helps students practice critical thinking, strategy, turn taking, and decision making while also building sportsmanship, communication, and social confidence. Students can learn how to follow rules, handle wins and losses respectfully, and engage positively with peers around a shared interest. Students may observe, play casually, or jump in when they feel ready. The emphasis is on understanding the game, enjoying time with peers, and building friendships through collaborative play.
